The Molecular Biology Institute of Barcelona (IBMB) is an institute of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) in the area of Biology and Biomedicine. It is located within the premises of the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) within a markedly academic environment in the Pedralbes area of Barcelona city, close to the campuses of the University of Barcelona (UB) and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). The IBMB comprises one of the most important groups of researchers in biosciences in Catalonia and Spain.

The institute is developing its project in the framework of an increasing participation of local institutions in planning and financing scientific research in Catalonia. The Barcelona area aims to play a central role in developing biological research in Southern Europe, the BioRegion. This aim has stimulated the creation of new research poles and centers, as well as science and technology parks. In this context, research at the IBMB is being reinforced through the establishment of strategic alliances with local institutions (universities, research centers, spin-off companies, etc.) resulting from common scientific objectives. In this way, the institute seeks to organize its research more efficiently, creating new research synergies, and gaining access to additional resources.

The Molecular Biology Institute of Barcelona aims to foster high quality research in the fields of molecular biology and biomedicine, contributing both at the academic and technology transfer levels as well. Our institute is also committed to train ongoing researchers and future specialists in distinct areas of biological sciences. For this purpose, the institute is designed as an integrated research facility with four research programs, spanning from structural biology to the molecular mechanisms of cellular and developmental biology.
